Like many others, I fell instantly under the spell of the beauties of Viet Nam and their silky elegance, whose very essence is expressed by the ao dai, the traditional women’s clothing. Hué’s reputation, famous for the beauty of its women, is really well-known. But I experienced it many times elsewhere. Wether in the tranquil shadow of houses or in the outside breeze that makes their tunics’ panels float, when one of these graceful, and thus riveting, women appears is a moment you cannot forget. But, mostly, I would like to pay tribute to all these Vietnamese women, young and old, that I happen to see busying around from dusk until late at night. Untiring farmers, merchants, workers and mothers. Some of them do the most harassing tasks. For me, their beauty is their courage and their dedication. In the looks they gave me – looks sometimes piercing through between the straw hats and the masks – I saw nothing but kindness. I would like to thank them for that.
